In the summer of "93, Chris Keleton and
Eric Overdrive decided they couldn't stand the watered down,
cheese laden radio "punk" any longer. Drafting Barry
Johnson (later of Candy Snatchers fame) on drums, they cleared
out a rat infested garage on 48th Street in the lovely crime
ridden section of downtown Norfolk and commenced to banging out
songs on glorious , 3 chord punk rock fashion. Playing in
wharever bar that could afford to keep them supplied with all the
free beer they could handle, Black Jesus plugged in, pissed off,
and passed out. After many hazy nights, their old school punk
rock sound gained the respect of others who where sick of the
repetitive, radio crap.
In 1995, after must enticing with various
substances, the band was able to acquire the microphone abusing
talents of JBYRD. Along with the able drumming of the legendary
Rusty Floyd this lineup released the now infamous 7" of
orange vinyl. Other waste products from this studio session
included a spit 45" with V. B. Skate punk The Lost Tribe,
and a tune disposed of on the "if it's not broken, break
it" compilation.
In early 1996 Chris took over the rhythm guitar
slot and the Reverend Dorbr` was added on bass. Black Jesus had
exhausted more drummers than Spinal Tap before recruiting Sgt.
Stash to join the ranks.
With a tune coming up on Jeff Dahl's Ultraunder
release "Trash on Demand Vol 3", Black Jesus shows no
signs of letting the man hold them down.
