RICHMOND MUSIC JOURNAL, MARCH 1997

In your February issue, columnist Greg Wells had nothing but great things to say about a group of local scumbags that go by the name The Halfways.Greg, why would you cover such crap when there are so many great local bands like Wardance Orange, Eskalators, Funsize and many more?

I saw The Halfways play the RVA Punk Benefit, Jan. 31 at the Biograph (Why Carol? Why would you have these losers "play"?) As soon as this "band" staggers on stage, one of the guitar players start yelling in the mic about how punk rockers are idiots and many o9ther dumb things. Certain band members were obviously out of it.(Both guitar players fell off the stage.) I would like to tell The Halfways it is not cool to be a junkie or a drunk. After the first few "songs" they showered the crowd with water, sugar and peanut butter. Come on guys, grow up.

Maybe I could let that slide if you were 15, but you are obviously in your early 20's. I have talked to certain people that say The Halfways are really nice guys. You just have to get to know them somehow. I doubt it. We have no room in the scene for this. I would like all other punk bands to stop playing shows with this "band".

In closing, I would just like to tell Greg to start covering soom real bands. Also, big thanks to the RVA Punk Nation for trying to help the scene.
